Fungus 21/08/99

The questions were e-mailed, then faxed to Fungus and finally snailed mailed back to me. If you haven’t heard Fungus, where have you been? They are a Swedish poppy-punk band and they rule! Furry Tree: Why did you chose Fungus as your name?
Fungus: The name is originally taken from a comic strip with Garfield, where to the kitchen one night, opens the fridge, and gets an attack from the killer spares from the planet Fungus.

FT: What bands do you like and have they had any influence?
F: Foo Fighters, Beastie Boys, Pavement, Beach Boys, Primus, Metallica, Frank Zappa, Weezer, Bob Hund, Soundgarden and lots more. They’ve had a big influence, and they still are.

FT: How were you discovered by your record company and what is the history of the band?
F: Andy Ross saw us on a gig in Stockholm. We’ve existed as Fungus for about four years.

FT: How did you end up touring with Silverchair?
F: The drummer from Silverchair got a hold of our “Over My Head” - single and liked it, so we ended up supporting them for a couple of gigs.

FT: Have you always wanted to be in a band?
F: From the moment of our first breath.

FT: What were you jobs before you became successful?
F: Dave --- Butcher, Pelle --- Hyde specialist, working with cowhydes for Volvo. Caroline --- Ice cream - caf
é - Manager. Johan --- Still in school, but quit school when we got the deal with Food Records.

FT: Who are the best band you’ve seen live?
F: Dave --- Metallica Johan ---
Pelle --- Bob Hund Caroline ---

FT: Are you excited about playing at Reading?
F: Always excited about Festivals. It’s when the true nature of a band musician gets alive and when brian cells are ment to be destoryed.

FT: Do you get nervous when playing at gigs?
F: Always Good nervousity, never bad.

FT: Do you ever wish you weren’t in a band?
F: Oh yes!, when certain bandmembers smell .... stink!!

FT: What do you think is your biggest achievment?
F: There’s always a bigger achievment, but supporting Kiss at Stockholm Stadium was a good one.

FT: What did you want to do when you were little?
F: Dave --- Wanted to be an actor Johan --- Artist
Pelle --- Wanted to be the Tarzan of the City and climb everything - even roots of houses.

FT: Have you ever made a fool out of your selves in public?
F: There is no such thing as making a fool out of yourself.

FT: If you could go back in time ie there anything you’d change?
F: Pelle --- Go to America and meet up with Frank Zappa.

FT: What question would you like to be asked and what would the answer be?
F: Do you want a million pound? Yes, please.
